My Story

Movement has always been my through line. It brought me to dance, where I met my biggest inner critique and my softest inner supporter. It brought me to a career in physical therapy, where I met my determined cerebral self and my curious somatic self. It brought me to the world of somatics where I found a deeply spiritual self and a politically active self. Movement continues to bring me to all my parts, and for that I am grateful.

Welcome. My name is Karah Charette, sometimes Dr. Karah Charette, PT, DPT, RYT because I hold a doctorate in physical therapy from Columbia University. I specialize in somatic pelvic health and I co-own a practice in Oakland, CA called Bodyful Physical Therapy and Wellness.

My pronouns are she/her, I identify as queer, and I currently live on the stolen lands of the Ohlone people.

I also identify as an artist and a healer. For me, both identities influence the other.

I founded my “brand” as WISE movement because for me it stands for Wiggly Integrative Somatic Embodiment. I strive to have these qualities infused with whatever I do.

I am currently studying to be a somatic movement educator through the work of Body-Mind Centering® founded by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. I have the privilege of studying with Mary Lou Seereiter who is also a master teacher of Authentic Movement. I am in mentorship for this work as well, and it has profoundly changed my life.

Creation has been vital for my soul. Dance, choreography, dance on film, and poetry have all been outlets that allow me to metabolize the way I experience the world.

I have created this site to function like a portfolio- to organize and highlight my offerings and what I would like to bring to my communities. I look forward to how that may continue to unfold.

Thank you for your curiosity.
